I am writing to express my immense gratitude to you and the Committee for Missing Children. You were instrumental in my mission to locate and return my daughter from Canada back home to New York. There is no other organization, group, or government agency that has helped me in such a concrete way as you. I would not have been able to afford the four trips to Canada that were so necessary in order to make the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction happen. As a low income full time college student at Queens College fo the City University of New York, being hit with the abduction of my then-16 month old daughter by her unstable mother, I was devastated beyond belief. You encouraged me to stay in college and continue functioning. Your phone calls and from-the-heart true concern really gave me the hope and the energy to make the finding and return of my daughter happen.

I hope to volunteer for your organization, and will help you as much as I can in the future. G-od bless you - for all the wonderful work you do!

December 2004

I am writing this for all parents to know that you should not give up hope.

I was at that point till I found out about the Committee for Missing Children. Once I spoke with David Thelen, met with Harald Weisker and Chris Lops, and not to forget Linda Gardner I regained the hope and it wasn’t very long after I spoke with them I had my day in court and came back home with my son.

I just don’t know how to express how grateful I am for all the help I received from everybody.

So please don’t give up hope.

On June 24, 2004 my son Matthias did not return from his vacation in Germany. His mother told me, that they would stay in Germany permanently and that she had initiated a hearing to get sole custody in a German court.

The following weeks I contacted the American consulate, lawyers, the state department, and NGO´s to find out if there was a way to bring my son back to the US. Due to bad advice and not really accurate information I did get the impression that my chances to get my son back, especially back from Germany were very poor.

By chance I contacted David Thelen CEO of the Committee for Missing Children in Atlanta, who told me right away that my chances to get my son back through the hague convention on child abduction were excellent! He recommended attorney Harald Weisker, who has already recovered numerous children from Germany under similar circumstances.

Within a few days, an application for the return of my child was made with the proper court, and within 6 weeks I was able to return to the US with my son.

It was extremely important for me, that I have received for the first time ever, correct and extensive information from the Committee for Missing Children. Based on previously received information I was in believing, that I could never return with my son to the US. Without the contacts of the Committee for Missing Children and their relationship to the expert attorney in such cases, Harald Weisker, I would have possibly prepared myself for a long and costly court proceeding which would have most likely not returned my son to me. In addition I would have spent a lot of money for the courts in the US since all previously received recommendations pointed towards a hearing in the US instead of a hearing in Germany. And all the statements that I heard all over saying that I had no chance of success in a court outside the US, were also wrong!

After my experience I can only encourage all parents with children abducted to Germany: Germany is returning children to the US, if the requirements of the Hague Treaty are met and specialized attorneys like Harald Weisker are handling such cases.

Father and Son Reunite After Abduction

The Committee for Missing Children helped Ronald Wintersgill recover his 9-year-old son Eric from Germany, where he had been living since he was taken from the United States 10 months ago by his mother.

The Committee for Missing Children was able to assist a mother from Singapore, Amala Rogge, in the recovery of her son Dwayne, 8 years old.

The non custodial german father did not return him after the Christmas vacation. The court in Frankfurt decided on February 27th, to send Dwayne back to Singapore. The hearing was handled by our board member attorney Harald Weisker.

WELCOME HOME DWAYNE!

First Parent Advocacy Meeting

May 19-21, 2000 Langenselbold, Germany

The Committee for Missing Children / Europe held the first ever parent advocacy meeting in langenselbold, Germany in 2000. The CMC Europe brought together parents of missing and abducted children as well as lawyers, NGO´s and members of the US State Department. The objective of the meeting was to set the stage for the development of a handbook that would assist parents in their efforts to find, recover and return their children. The handbook, "A roadmap to recovery" would lead a parent around the roadblocks that get in the way of the return of a child.

It is our hope that the handbook, which can be downloaded from our web site, will assist not only parents of missing and abducted children, but make available information and resources to lawyers, organizations and agencies that are charged with assisting a parent in the successful return of their children. Our goal is to have the handbook available in German, English, Spanish and French
